Hey everyone I am lokking for a little help buying new wheels & tires for my 03 Road King Classic. I am looking replacing the spoked wheel with a slotted wheel (RK Custom like) to eliminate the need for a tubed tire. But need your help...
- Recommendations for going from 16" to 18" wheel?
- How wide of a rear tire can I run without making any mods to the bike? (3.5" - 4.0")???
- Recommendations on best place to buy wheels and tires?
- Do you recommend having HD mechanic replace wheels & tires vs. a local bike mechanic?
Thanks in advance for your help. Ride Safe!! Billy
Check out the link to the right for HogPro. I just bought a set of black wheels (see sig pic below) but they have a big selection in different finishes at great prices. They can mount new tires and ship them almost ready to install.
You can go to 18" wheel without much difference in ride height if you go with Metzeler tires like I did since they are a lower profile and actually ride very well on the rain grooves on the fwy.
Consensus is that 18" will show more wheel while keeping the handling pretty much the same.
My rear tire is actually a 4.25 and should be ok in your case as well. The guys at Hogpro can confirm.
Anybody who pulls the back tire for any kind of service should be trusted to replace yours. Indy shop will probably be less expensive.
PM me if I can answer any more questions.
Primo
P.S. I have a pair of the 16" slotted wheels you mentioned off of my Street Glide with the factory Dunlops for sale in the 'For Sale" forum here. 2 wheels + 2 tires= $500.
