It appears this is affecting riders in NY. Anyone seen an update to this? I have not seen a response to the this letter from the US-DOT.

I'm pleased to see that a number of Congress members are advocating for us, and for actual "make sense" legislation instead of laws that are revenue enhancement based. I'm telling you guys...if we as a community don't get actively involved in combating the anti-motorcycle efforts of so many law makers right now, you can certainly expect to see a huge decrease in the numbers of posts related to "what pipe for my stage 1 upgrade". Once these EPA and loud pipe laws become wide spread, it's stock pipes with cats for all of us. Will be a sad day indeed.
I wonder what a true environmental footprint study would really reveal. Sure emissions are higher with aftermarket motorcycle products, however we're talking about a single/double passenger vehicle that has much better gas mileage than a passenger vehicle or commercial vehicle, takes up much less space on the open road (less congestion than the lone driver aiming their Ford Excursion down the road) and a motorist community that tends to place a higher premium on safe operation (well, excluding a large percentage of ricers).
Targeting motorcyclists seems to be a futile effort if the desired result is lowering emissions, and is most definitely meant to be a "feel good" solution for folks who hate us because for whatever reason. Just my $0.02.

Here's what a true environmental footprint study will show you. The environmental footprint of a motorcycle is way less than that of a four-wheeled vehicle, and it goes way beyond smog out the tailpipe. It causes less environmental impact to produce and maintain a motorcycle, less to maintain the roads, and less to recycle. It goes on and on.
When are the politicians going to get out of my life and stay out of my life. How about this - don't spend that tax money on anything and give it back to the tax payers like me.
