Default Hardwire GPS on RoadKing w pics.

Mounted my Garmin 1390 on my RKC yesterday. Used the left Aux switch for power. If you use this, attach your hot lead to the Orange wire (not Or/R) and just ground your black wire. THe switch can now be used to power on or off.
When the unit is unmounted, all I'm left with is a chrome clamp.

Looks great and thanks for the pictures.

I have a similar unit, but am concerned about wiring the GPS directly to the 12 volt DC of the accessory connector when the GPS comes with a car charger that changes 12 volt DC to 5 volt DC. I believe your 1390 is the same electrically. Am I wrong about being concerned?

Thanks again for the post.

To answer two questions.

AUX Switch:
The Aux switch is already powered. All you have to do is tap into the orange wire and run a ground.

12volt to 5 volt:
There is an aftermarket hardwire that takes care of that.
A Co. called Gilsson makes them.

I've been running it this way in my car for a year with no problems.

I got the mount from Leader Motorcycle Accessories.

Nice job! I am getting the 660 and mount you have. My left and right aux switches on my 2001 road king are both used (right side for passing lamps and left side for cruise). What other options do I have for power? Can I run straight to the battery for my power?

You can run straight to the battery, but there will be constant power to the unit. You could also tap into the headlight so that there would only be power supplied when the bike is on.

when that is hooked direct to battery does it give trickle charge or full charge.
I have Tom Tom Rider II and I have it hooked up to battery and it only gives trickle charge which to me sucks because if you are on the road for more then 4 hours then your screwed, unless you remember direction. All I get on a full charge is 4 hours so I try and turn it on once I leave city limits to save time on the battery life

Did the same set up last time I was home, except I put it on the left side. I used to have it run straight to the battery, but did not like the fact that there was a constant draw on the battery due to the little LED light on the Gilsson wire. I know it don't draw that much but I have to store my bike for 313 days out of the year due to work (in storage 90-120 days home for 25 days then back to storage etc). The trip before last I put the bike away in a hurry and forgot to disconnect the battery and put it on the trickle charger, so I came home to a dead battery.
