Default Jiffy stand

Some of the older ones seem much stronger,my 2010 rolls way too foward for my liking and it is all under that stupid bolt that the above post shows snapped off.

Please explain how the kickstand "gave way" and let the bike fall over but the dealer said the kickstand wasn't damaged and was working fine? Are you still using the same kickstand? If it rolled over using the kickstand as a pivot then the kickstand did not "give way". It did it's job.

I've only had one issue with my jiffy stand. I'd had the 09 Ultra for about 6 months. I needed to park it in the storage barn for a few days while we had guests. I have always left mine in gear, I turned it off and put out the jiffy stand and let it start leaning on the stand. The stand folded closed and the bike came to rest against a stack of boxes, cuz it is the storage barn. I did not sustain any damage, except to my heart when it jumped out of my chest. Since then, I keep my foot against it until all of the bike weight is on the stand~ no problems since.

Until I got used to it ( about a month ) my heart dropped a little every time the bike would start rolling.
The design sucks and should be done with a little closer tolerance in my opinion but now that I'm used to it I won't worry about it.

Oh definitly it was my fault and being in gear may of saved it, but the point is if the darn thing had a more possitive locking possition like other brand bikes it would of never rolled in the first place and I would not be used to it moving as per the H-D design then if it did I'd be all over it trying to save it rather than waiting for the roll to stop as I've gotten casual about.
It will be in gear from now on for sure.....

Scared the sh*t outta me the first couple of times it happened. Then, I got used to it. I park mine in neutral sometimes, sometimes in gear. Foot is always on the stand until everything is down and locked.

Maybe "gave way" is an inaccurate description. The bike was slowly rolling forward because it was in parked in neutral on a downward slope. The kickstand was fixed in place but the bike kept moving slowly forward because of the slope. The angle of the kickstand to the bike kept shifting towards the rear of the bike as the bike moved forward. The mechanism in the kickstand that's meant to hold the bike in place could not withstand the force of 850 pounds moving forward and the kickstand dislodged out of that safety notch or whatever you call it and the bike fell. Once we picked the bike up and parked it in gear so it couldn't roll forward the kickstand worked fine. I'm not a technical person so I'm probably not describing this so it can be clearly understood, and I don't know the kickstand mechanisms in detail, but the lesson I learned is not to rely on the kickstand to hold if you park the bike in neutral on a downward slope; it will fail under certain conditions.
