It fastens to the stock strapping that comes with the OEM windhield.
Hmmm... the stock shield on my '10 measures 20" from the cutout above the nacelle to the highest point. I thought the 22" was an optional, king-size, item.

Either way, I'd like to get a shorter one. I'm 6'1" and if I sit up straight like mama said the top edge is just below my line of sight.

I like the looks of the LRS replacements, with the flip edge. Either that or a short, dark one from H-D.

Like others have said you really want to comfortably look over the windshield. I made a run to Deals Gap several weeks ago with the stock 12 1/2" screen on my Limited. I'm 6' and on the highway I'm just looking over the top looking far down the road. Unfortunately in the twisties I'm looking through the shield and worse yet sometime through and over it at the same time. It sure effected my rhythm on the Dragon. I bought the Harley 10" windshield last week and it works great for me. When I first sat on the bike after the install I figured the wind noise and buffeting was going to really increase. It didn't. Barely noticeable.

I've been caught in the rain, and I ride like I'm on a chopper, all hunched over...

I like being behind the shield, out of the wind, and a hard target for the larger flyin critters. When the shield fogs up, I just lean the bike over and look around it. Of course, that's when my face shield becomes essential! Got caught in a down pour earlier this year. Had to run almost 80 miles with the bike leaned over. Switchin sides ever so often takes the fatigue out of the equation...

Nope, not gonna change a thing. I like it as it is!

I'm just a tad over 6'. I have an adjustable backrest and sundowner seat (sits slightly lower than the stock seat) and with it leaned back or if I slouch, I look through the shield which I have gotten used to and if I set up I see over the windshield or right where it is cut. I believe the department of public safety says you are supposed to look just over the shield and at times I get annoyed that I don't. Most of the time I have bad posture. It's a 20" shield by the way. Long Ride Sheilds just posted a thread in the touring section that in mid December they will have a 19" shield available. I hope I don't spend $90 and have a bunch of buffeting with the shorter shield but their shields have a lip on the top of them that I hope will direct the air right over the top of me.

I'm 5'8" and cut mine down to about 17.5". Much better. I can see over it normally, and be able to duck behind it without much effort if needed... Plus I still get some breeze, which is nice. The stock height had me looking right at the top edge of the shield... I hated that... drove me nuts - it didn't last two weeks at that height.

Standard practice says it should be about at the height of the lower part of the bridge of your nose.

I've always been under the impression that it's what ever you're comfortable with looking through or over the top of a windshield.

+1, I need to cut mine down. I'm only 5'7" and shrinking. Gotta get the RK shield cut down.

Stock windshield here!! It work's great for me - I'm 6'1" and I can look over it which is most of the time and I can look thru it when rain and bug's are
hitting it.

My previous ride had a windshield that was too low and it buffeted my helmet and my sunglasses - It was too short - just a warning
