We should put the word out that there will be hundreds of us arriving from Canada and the U.S. next year for the "HOG 'N' BOG". (2nd generation Corkman here)

I toured southern area in a car in Sept. 08 and don't know if I'd do it on a MC. Directions and turn abouts are very confusing so definetly get a GPS whatever you do. Also the roads are narrow and the buses big. We really liked Killarney and Dingle Bay. I have a write up on our trip if you want to pm me your e-mail.

From my experience ( mostly riding in Scotland ) their weather in general is cooler than it is here ( Iowa ). And more importantly no matter the month of the year it can and will rain. So, pack some very good rain gear, along with some warm riding gear. also, while you are there remember that they drive on the Wrong side of the road. That not only applies to when you are driving but also as a pedestrian. Personally I had a problem with crossing roads on foot, specifically, I would approach a crossing and look left. When I looked left and did not see any traffic coming I would start into the crossing only to be pulled back by my wife. You really need to get this right, the damned traffic is coming from the right. And, the sidewalk to road is a lot closer there than it is here. So, be damned careful over there. Also, while I love a cold beer I can't condone giving up your sobriety, but if you do they have some mighty fine beer over there. Namely Guiness & Smithwicks I am sure there are many more, they have a lot of regional brewereys there. Most of all enjoy the scenery and the people. They are very friendly people and enjoy the occasional "Yank" asking a dumb questions.

The coast road from Larne to Portrush is spectacular since much of it is along the sea with major elevation changes.

I would recommend in September. If you are in the Southwest, ride the Ring of Kerry, and if going to Dingle Bay, ride Connor's Pass.

I quite drinking 20 years ago, but may have to have a 1 month waiver when we go over. Can't go there and not sample the brew Give me a shout if you have any pertinent information. Ride safe
You can't go wrong anywhere in the country. I've been a few times and toured around but never on a bike. Glad you've been saving as you'll need plenty of cash. Dublin is one of the most expensive cities in Europe. Cheaper once out of there but even so, you'll take a beating with the exchange rate. Euro to dollar is about 1-$1.40 now.

BTW, I've kissed the Blarney stone and my lips haven't fallen off yet.

Rob, do you just rent when you go over or ship yours? I've heard Air Canada has a pretty good deal for shipping and flying. I'd guess you'd have to stay and ride awhile to make it affordable though.

We have narrowed our big spring ride down to either Ireland or Croatia. We plan to leave the last weekend of May. The Ireland bike fest or the Croatia Hog rally is the destination, just not sure which one yet. We drink alot of beer but you are welcome to coordinate with me. Also we plan to attend the "Thunder In The Glens" in Avemore, Scotland in August if you are interested in this instead.
