It seems like the inner fairing has a differnt finish on it than the rest of the bike. It's not really textured, but it's certainly not smooth. What are people doiong to smooth out the inner fairing so the paint lays down nice?
I just painted mine this past weekend and all you need to do for prep is use a scotch pad to scuff it up and than give it to your painter. I love mine..
if u wanna do it nice water sand it with #500 sand paper wipe it down with grease and wax remover. be sure to use lint free rags then u get a tac rag which is a stickey rag u buy from a automotive paint store wipe it down reel good use pressure when wiping but not enough to leave the residue from the tac rag. u also buy a aerosol can of plastic primer spray 1 tac coat let it flash for about 10 min. apply another coat let it flash again. when dry to the touch apply your paint till u get coverage usally 3 to 5 coats. while applying the paint let each coat flash 10 to 15 min and use your tac rag between each coat once coverage is reached let the last coat dry for at least 20 to 30 min. mix your clear the trick to getting a good flat gloss is the temp of the harner u get they make a fast hardner. hardner is what u mix with the clear to get it to cross link any way i use a slow drying clear this allows the clear to flow more it does take more time to dry but this is what u need to acheive a good flat gloss. if u use a faster hardner then u might get some orange peel in most cases the faster the hardner the more orange peel u will get. follow these instructions and u should get a decent job. make sure where ever u are painting to wet the area with a lite mist of water it helps to acheive a clean paint job. i have been painting for 30 plus years had my own shop for 15 plus years. retired and now back in business in my garage sparying inner fairings and anything else someone wants painted on there bikes. good luck and ride safe.
