Will doing a “Stage One”… Replacing the air filter, the pipes (to eliminate the CAT), the mufflers, and adding a PCV (or some type of EFI tuner) void my warranty? Does the work have to be done by a HD dealership? Do I have to use HD parts?
that question would be better asked at the dealership where you shop. i know that the harley dealership i deal with, wasn't concerned, although i didn't need any warranty work on my bike.
check with your dealer.
If they say you will be covered get it in writing.
MOCO does not like to cover if there have been mods even using their parts.
Dealers can look the other way and do warranty work and not tell MOCO about the mods.
Some dealers are good about it some are not.
If you do the work or have an indy do the work I would say you will void your warranty.
I had all my work done by the dealer before taking delivery of my bike. I still have a warranty because I did it that way. If you or an Indy put on a stage 1 chances are if anything happens to the engine your warranty wont cover it. However the rest of the bike will still be covered.
The warranty isn't simply void or not void. It's what the warranty covers. So if you change anything that affects emissions, headers for example, the warranty might not cover anything related to emissions. But, everything else would still be covered. If you put in after market pistons, a lot of the engine components might not be covered. But, the transmission and rest of the drive train would still be covered. So it just depends on what was changed.
Rather doubtful whether a free-er flowing air-cleaner and a new exhaust and a tuner would actually cause any damage.. I haven't ever heard of it on this forum any way..
I seriously don't think that you have anything to worry about..
I did mine without going through the dealer.I wouldn't think there should be a problem, since I told them when I bought the bike I would have my bike serviced by my local indy. They told me no problem, just keep all my documents from each service.
