Default Any ideas?

I recently ordered the rear fender / saddlebag filler strip from the dealer. When they came in, they didn't fit my bike, although the parts catalog didn't say they didn't. I had the service dept. and parts dept. guys wondering why the saddlebag bar on my 09 Road Glide didn't have the tabs that the other touring bikes have. They said I guess the book description was wrong, and there's no way these will fit your bike. The only remedy is to purchase new saddlebag bars at $140.00 each. So, for the filler strip, I have to pay $160.00 for the strips, and another $280.00 for bars? They said that, or I'd have to find an outside vendor that may carry these.... So, I take them home and figure I'd find a way to fit them, but there's no way.... hopefully I can get my $$ back from the dealer on Tuesday. After all, it was their screw up. Anybody have any suggestions on where I can get these from ?

First thing I would do is locate another 2009 Road Glide similar to yours and do a side-by-side comparison, taking pictures to document differences.

If your RG is indeed different, then you can go to the dealer with your documented evidence and discuss with the Owner or General Manager (screw underlings, go straight to the top) why your bike is different.

If your bike is exactly like the other, then you can discuss options with the Parts & Service folks.

Default Modified Kuryakyn saddlebag filler panels

FWIW: I bought Kuryakyn saddlebag filler panels in chrome for my RKC.
I also have the saddlebag guard rails, and the Kuryakyn filler strips won't normally fit with them.

So ..... I modified the filler panels to fit around the guard rails by using a dremel tool to cut away some of the panel where the guard rails swing around behind the saddlebags, and added some black plastic self adhesive edging (the kind that is used to protect car door edges) to the edge of the cut.

Any ideas?-small-1.jpg Any ideas?-small-2.jpg

I had this black edging laying around in my garage, but I have some edging in chrome on its way, and I'll see how that looks.
But suffice to say the plastic fillers strips can be used, if you are dremel tool handy.

BTW: The Kuryakyn comes in either chrome or paintable for about $140, and doesn't use the lower mounting tabs at all.

Did you get the filler strips or the Street Glide fascia?

I put the SG fascia on my '09 RG and it fit fine.

Sounds like he bought the saddlebag filler strips and not the fascia. Not to be a dick, but although the parts book didn't say that it didn't fit, it doesn't say that it does fit. It doesn't say FLTR, FLTRX, etc anywhere for those filler strips. A good parts guy would have said something to you about it prior to taking your money.

Well, it didn't say it would fit, but when they say it won't fit FLTR '95-08, you'd think it would fit an '09. That's what stumped the service and parts guys.

09 and later is a totally different beast. If you look at the ones that fit the FLHT line there are the ones that fit up to 08 and then the ones that fit 09 and later. You need to find a new dealer if the parts and service guys couldn't figure that one out.

okay, so today the dealer refunded my credit card for the painted parts. He said we usually don't take back painted parts.... and I said, I didn't order them, I just told you what I wanted, and YOU ordered them... all I did was pay for them. Now that we know they don't fit, YOU return them and give ME back my money... and they did.
