Ok so I loosen everthing and took the muffler off to kinda start over. I removed the exhuast nut and pulled flanges back but didnt remove headers. It looks like the headers have start to go into the gaskets but not all the way.
Does the header pipe bevel where the flange sit slide all the way the way flush with the heads. I took another pic to kinda show. The pipes are starting to go in but dont know if I should just keep going but dont want to break and exhuast stud.
If your unsure about installing your exhuast and dont have the experience I would suggest having sombody else help you that knows more about Harleys or take it to a shop. The head pipe should go up to the head and not inside the port. Do you have the stock gaskets in or do you have something else. If you break the exhuast stud you are using the tool use a 1/4" drive or a wrench on the nuts you can get to them because if you do break that exhuast stud your going to be taking it to a shop anyway. ^_^

It's really hard for me to advise on over tightening the nuts, when I can't feel them with my own wrist. I don't want to tell you something that results in damage.
Hard to follow a listed torque spec on a bolt you can barely get at.
Surely you should be able to feel when the bolt suddenly gives much more resistance than it did. You are going to crush that gasket a little, but you don't want to over do it. I suppose this post is pretty much a non-answer. LOL Sorry.

Ed, Yeah. Well I took the headers off just to start fresh. I pulled the stock gaskets out. Seems to me that the they were starting to crush. Im going to try the ones that came in my weisco top end kit, same materail just alittle less thick. Of course I really have no choice since I dont have any other gaskets unless I want to run to the dealer for some more.

I don't want my earlier post to mislead you. It's okay for them to crush some. They are supposed to do that to seal better. Unless they are real smashed, they likely are still okay.
No prob Ed. I got everthing back together. Like I said everything lines up great, slides into place. All bolts are tight. The gap is better better between the flange and the head but there is a gap. It would seem to me( I could be wrong) but if that flange sat completely flush with the head that it would smash that gasket to hell. Anyways before I put the header back on I put the other gaskets in that came with my top end to see who the fit and the gasket is same od as header. I guess when I finish putting the rest of the bike back together and if it leaks( I dont think it will) I just take it to someone and have them reinstall the exhuast. Thx for all the help
