I read, most likely here on HDForum, that the Torx were actually Torx+ which are slightly larger than the Torx which are fairly easy to get at stores. That may be why I've shattered 3 Craftsman Torx bits, as large as T-45.
The Torx are actually more frustrating than when I had a 66 Norton that had been through various owners and had SAE, metric, Whitworth and Allen, both SAE and metric, fasteners.

With a modern bike you'll need them before too long. Those metric fasteners are in there, just waiting for the right moment. There is no escape!

+1. They probably took a page from Henry Ford's book. He used to do the same thing with the Model T. Example 13/32" bolt for the torque tube

Hallelujah! Its not just me! Makes me crazy! But I must say, in my past I worked in a high end yacht manufacturing plant and from that I can see how so many different types make there way into the final product. Part coming from so many different suppliers etc.......

Went to change the oil pressure sender on my 1988 Toyota pickup the other day the the threads were BSPT. (British Standard Pipe Thread) on a Japanese vehicle. These do not interchange with any other pipe thread even though the diameter might be the same. One of the threads is cut on a 55 deg. angle and the NPT on the 60 deg. angle. So when you think you know all about NPT and Metric they throw in another to the mix. I also have a large tool box with SAE, Metric, and yes, Whitworth. That's my part of the bitch. I can also remember in the supposed changeover when American vehicles had metric fasteners and Euro/Jap had SAE sizes. I do agree that the metric system is superior. Try converting inch measurments to liquid measure. i.e. how many cubic inches in a quart? Stumped? How many cubic centimeters in a liter? 1000. That was easy. As a retired home builder I just have never figured out what to call a 2X4. I now need a whiskey.

We British get everywhere with our threads! Your camera tripod is BSW, regardless of where the camera is made, your bicycle probably has British Cycle threads on those funny fine threaded bits, such as the crank bearings. But then Whitworth did standardise threads in the 1850s and set a World precedent. Its only a few colonials and the French who thought they could do their own thing......

We all should be calling it a 1.5"x3.5" which is just one more level of craziness!

Funny ain't it!

+1 on that. THREE different wrenches to check the fluid levels in the front diff, transfer case and rear diff on my wife's 98 Sierra pickup!
