Default Has To Be A Problem!! Rear Caliper!

A friend of mine with a 2010 Ultra Classic had to have the rear caliper replaced. It blew the piston seal out. Another guy at the local Harley dealer had to do the same thing on his 2010 Ultra Limited. I just checked the rear caliper on my 2010 Limited and the rear piston looks wet around the end. You can just see a little of it protruding past the housing. I work on cars and have seen the same thing. It certainly looks like it's leaking. I'm calling the dealer to get this looked out. I definitely don't want it to blow out when I need it the most. Anyone out there had this problem? Jr.

The seals don't really blow out as they sit in a groove. What can happen is, they can get a piece of grit on the pistons that scratches the the flat sided seals enough to make them leak. It is just a matter of taking the calipers apart and using a new HD seal kit replacing the seals and making sure you use only silicone grease on the pistons prior to re-assembly. Just another reason to clean your calipers pistons more often.

I thought they went to the fancy Brembo brakes because they were perfect...
