I've got the new SG and I've got 1500 miles on it so far. I've already gone through the 1000 mile oil change - went with the synthetic. When does all the power kick in? So far, I'm not too impressed. The power drops off at 3000 rpm. I've heard people talking about the power increasing after the break in period. I'm still waiting. I rented a Road King TC88 and it seemed like it had more power than my 96 inch. Can anybody give me any hope? I don't want to do any performance mods, I'm just hoping the stock power will pick up a little bit.
its said by many that the 'performance' is not noticeable over the 88". however, as mileage increases- so does HP (usually)... but it wont be a huge change
This is my first big HD, so I dont really have historical reference but
We have gone on a couple of rides with 88 inch baggers and a few 80 inch Dynas.
Mine runs even with anyone during acceleration (even riding 2 up against 1 up 80 inch glides with pipes etc)
and top end runs, mine literally effortlessly walks away at 70+ to well above 90 mph
I even did a 100 mph blast yesterday just to see what it felt like and it just rolled on until I hit the number that I thought I was being stupid LOL (101 ish) and rolled back, very uneventful and much less exciting than I expected
The 80 inch Dyna then caught up and flipped me off with a smile LOL
Mine is BONE stock ..... still has HD oil in it as delivered
You're going to have to do stage one,to get the motor to perform
the best it can in stock form. Bike will run cooler too.
I'LL bet that 96" would crank, with ported heads, and a good set of cams.
mtpoland,,,,, i bought a new ultra, buddy got a new SG, mine is stock,,and welll,,,, but HIS with 06 SE race slipons,SERT, and filter,, WOW!!! what a difff... like said before, stock is way restricted,,, like any motor, its gotta be made to "breath"
San Jose Harley must have done more to the Demo Street Glide than I thought. It was quicker than my 00 88B W/203 cams and Thunderheader. My bike is no slouch. I haven't had too many people blow smoke in my face. My buddie's 95" Dyna left me in the dust, so I'm not un-realistic.
I rode a bone stock 04 Ultra a month or so ago. Sweet sweet ride. It was a DOG though.

Mine outperforms my 2004 Fat Boy with V&H Big Radius, SE air cleaner, and remap/dyno. It clearly outperforms the 2005 RK Custom I traded in for it.
