When the pack is open the lower part of the backrest rises asit is attached to the top of the pack. I am wanting a bit more lower back support (Pak is on a detachable solo rack) and am looking for a backrest pad that would mount to the bottom part of the Pak below the backrest that is already in place. I looked through the HD catalog online but didn't see anything. Does anyone know of a source for something like this? THere is a great upholstery shop just down the road from me however I have to believe that I am not the only one in need of such a pad...
Von,
Just go to your local upholstery guy & have him stuff your backrest lower pad! Doesn't really matter how/where it attaches, he should be able to do it for MUCH less $$ than finding an HD solution!
My King TP pad had to be extended for the lower passenger pillion.
Good Luck, Dave
i picked up a king tourpak on craigslist for $300.00. it was missing the lower pad altogether, I took my wifes cutting board (white HDP from walmart). cut it to fit the bottom portion of the tp, used stainless star nuts, found some automobile seat foam, 3M adhesive to the cutting board, shaped with an electric fillet knife, covered with black leather from the local hobby shop, about $20 invested, its at the painter so now pix.
THe lower part of my current backrest doesn't come down as far as I want it to which is why I am looking for something to mount to the lower part of the TP similar to how the chopped TPs backrests are set up. If someone doesn't make something I will be making a visit to Mac's Upholstery in Kirkland to do this. I stretched and stapled a replacement seat cover on my Suzuki DRZ 400 however this pad would require some stitching which is not in my present skill set.
You can play around with some cut pieces of padding until you get the right feel you want.
Then have your guy make or stuff your pad to that thickness.
I had to add a bottom pad to the King TP on the SG as it has a Chopped Pad.
Ended up with a bottom pad about 1 1/2 inches thick that made the wife happy.
