I'm perfectly happy with my J&S. I understand that the Pitbull has a much larger foot print which I don't need.

Well, I don't know how my answer ended up below your question, but there it is.

Default motorcycle jack

I am looking to buy a jack and have it narrowed down to the pitbull or the J&S. The J&S jack is about $100 cheaper. Is there any reason to spend the extra on the pitbull?

Got my J&S for Christmas last year. No regrets.

I have the $69 sams club- find equal quality jack at harbor freight.
by quality, I mean replace the bolts with grade 8 hardware.

but for $69 they work great.

From what I researched before I bought it, the Pitbull uses a higher quality jack in their lift than the others, and thus there were fewer reports of failures as in ... OMG, my $20G or so bike is now laying on its side. F---!!!

That may have changed since however. I don't know.

On set-up, I wasn't all that impressed in getting some of the screws to line up/in place, but I haven't had a hint of failure with my Pitbull, and I use fairly regularly.

What did it for me was this ... $100 savings / $20,000 or so bike = 0.5%.

Be sure to get the oil drain pan option for the J&S. It's not actually a pan, it's a metal sheet that directs the oil for all 3 holes into a drain pan which you set off to the side. Works great and makes oil changes a breeze.
