..ok, I have an 05 so I'm bias, but here's an honest opinion. There were 2 negative things about 05's in my opinion. Both are related to the HEADS on them. First was early on in the production run a problem was discovered with excessive oil consumption due to faulty valve-guide seals. This was corrected with a "running change" during the year and so late 05 builds do not have that issue(mine was a May 05 build so I lucked out, no problem). The other issue with 05's was decreased power due to restricted exhaust flow at the exhaust valves(small exhaust valve diameter). On the flip side though, 05's run a hell of a lot cooler than 07's and up, and had no cat's in the system. My 05 has been flawless and runs well after a stage 1 and dyno. No it's not real fast, but will get out of it's own way (74hp-80TQ). But for it to be a good deal for you, you need to get that price down to maybe 11,000 or less, because it's not gonna hold value for you. And like El Ray said, I aint givin my 05 up either! Good luck
This summer I traded my 05 RKC. I was looking to sell it outright and took it to a couple of places for appraisals. This was in June and by the book it was worth $12,500. I have to think now the 11 are out you are looking at $11,500. My bike had 22K on it at the time. Just my 2 cents And by the way I never had a nickles worth of trouble out of it and my 2010 with the same setup has just a little more power, really not that noticeable.
I just bought a 2010 King (from a dealer). It had 1300 miles and is loaded with anti-lock breaks, cruise control, blue and silver 2-tone paint. I got it for $14,900.... Good prices out there... just keep your eyes open for the right deal. Plenty of Kings to choose from out there!
I had an 05 Road King Custom. It was loaded with custom paint, Weld wheels, Metzler rubber, lots of chrome and 95ci engine. Added cruise and some other stuff. I traded it for $12.8K and they sold it three days later for $15K. That was ALMOST 3 years ago. It was a great bike and I had the seals replaced under warranty when I had it. Other than that there weren't any major issues with thewse engines. I would have another one but not at that price. You can do better. I'd look to pay in the 9 to 10.5 thousand range.
I really like my 05 Road King, at 48,000 miles I have a few seals out that need to be changed. Runs great though.
My Dad was just telling me there was a 07 Black Cherry/Pearl Black Road King for $10,000 and I think it had 18,000 miles. This was at Milwaukee Harley.
Thanks much for the input! This is why I love this forum! Will the dealership is going through the bike today (what that means differs greatly from one dealership to the next). He told me to call back Tuesday to get their asking price. Its winter and I will not be riding much so I can wait it out to find a good bike. Now I do have some things to ask and think about.
You can look long and hard for the perfect bike and price. I had been scouring Cl and looking around the state inactively for a couple of years till I found the bike I have now. Could I have found one any cheaper. Probably. It was all a matter of timing and ability at the time. Plus it was as close to a garage queen as their could be. Twelve thousand miles on it. I have in the last year, seen two more standard E-Glides for sale. One for much more money, but only had like 1400 miles on it. The other was a year newer, more miles than mine has now, with a gut load of aftermarket stuff adorning it. Again, more money.
My 06' is supposedly one of bastard child years with a few issues to have to deal with. The previous owner took care of the couple of service bulletin issues that arose. I figure once the fixes have been taken care of I will have a better bike than many out there. Others say the 07' was the bastard year, I don't know, I don't care because any and every year bike is going to have particular flaws to deal with during ownership. I prefer knowing I have only the chain tension shoe left to deal with.
Any other issues are mostly with the owners of a said bike, thinking theirs is the only one with all the problems, or all must be afflicted with the same problem.
Eighteen thousand takes that bike out of the garage queen status in my book. My three year at the time had 12,000. I would not take that bike out of the running due to millage however. And as everybody knows, black bikes are the fastest. So if that one floats your boat, "pun intended", you best jump on board and not look back.
If it does work out for you, then were all happy for you!
