I only purchase products made of thick heavy leather.
I treat my leather jacket with Montana Pitch Blend Leather Dressing.Makes it water repellent enough ... My wife & I don't carry any rain gear,if we have time we'll thrown on our jackets if we're not already wearing 'em....keeps us dry.I treat my leather boots with the same stuff.
However... BMW riders really love the synthetic materials.

I'm not joking at all,not in the least....It's an accurate observation ,I'm correct, that's what they like to wear.
I've met and hung out with several BMW riders and we've discussed the gear we use,it's interesting how with clothing and other stuff they do things differently than HD riders.I take the good and learn from 'em and the stupid stuff's is what it is.
As for the "Pussification Thread" Can't see what it has to do with this, but I know there's about 360 posts there, some people got it,some didn't.

I was going to say the same thing! Leather and pavment are a better match if you have to go belly surfing!
The thing about Harley gear is that they are one of the few who make their stuff in the true larger sizes for us slim-challenged bigger folks. I normally take a 3 or 4 XL depending on the cut. I've tried some of the gear from Icon, Fieldsheer, etc and I don't know where they get their sizes from but they are nowhere near true sizes. I've bought 5XLs from them that are way smaller than 3XL. Joe Rocket is the only one I've found besides HD that works right. I have one of their leather jackets, and I have an HD Hi-Vis mesh with shouler and elbow armor that I really like as well for the hotter weather.
That said, I prefer leather, but the prices usually hold me back.
I'm kicking around the idea of a new jacket and have been looking at the harley davidson leather vs. the polyester denier. Both seem like nice jackets, and the polyester denier is waterproof. Would like to know some of you people's 2 cents on this. Thanks in advance!
Read this.....
All textiles are not created equally. Polyester, used in cheaper textile gear has poor abrasion resistance, nylon is slightly better, but neither can match Dupont Cordura (used in mid and upper tier textile gear from most manufacturers). 1000 denier Cordura has similar abrasion resistance to 1.3mm leather. See comparison below.
Olympia and Rev'It make some of the best textile gear. Very abrasion resistant and much more versatile wrt comfort in differing weather. Have the X-Moto and love it - comfy from 90F to 25F. http://www.olympiamotosports.com/xmo...motojacket.htm
Leather all the way. Found mine at an HD store and they didn't have my size so they called HD and Ordered my size, but the best part of that is that it is a discounted jacket and I got it for 229.00. Heck of a deal considering most of there jackets run around 450.00.

Exactly. I'd never wear a polyester jacket while riding. You have to look at the specs. I've got two 1000d Cordura jackets (Vanson). They are what I wear when it rains. They're nothing like the 500 or 600 denier polyester Joe Rocket jackets. Don't ever cheap on a textile jacket. If you don't go with Cordura, go with leather. Polyester jackets will melt, even the expensive ones.
I have a harley leather coat in the closet that worked well for many years and I was very happy with but it shrunk over the winter last year and doesn't fit over my gut anymore.
Damn, same thing happened to my HD leather Jacket and my Gerbings jacket liner. Go Figure.
No disrespect intended but some real misinformation going on here. Kevlar, like in the Motoport or Cycleport clothing is every bit or more abrasion resistant than leather- and much lighter and cooler in the summer.. Check out their site and the testing. I have their stuff and was ok in 109 degree weather and in winter rain. I also have HD FXRG. I like them both. Kevlar is the 21st century way to go.
