Default Windshield Sizing Help

I wanted to take advantage of the sale LRS is running on the Ultra windshield but I kind of stuck on the sizing. My 2010 FLHTC currently had the stock 12" windshield. In order to look over it I have to stretch up, which is rather uncomfortable, so I end up looking through it most of the time - something I would really rather not do especially in the rain!

No doubt I have to get something a bit shorter, but I also dont want to give up the wind protection I'm getting with the stock windshield since its a very comfortable ride right now as far as very little, if any, wind buffet on the helmet. Basically the stock windshield is just a hair above my eye level now. I would like to go with the 10" ultra, but I'm afraid I would be giving up wind protection. Does the design of the LRS ultra shield make up for it so that I will still get the same amount of wind protection even with the 2" shorter windshield? If not I can go with the 11", but I'd rather go a bit shorter if possible. For reference I am 5'10" tall and have the stock touring seat.

Any input would be helpful - thanks!

I run a Cee Bailey SSC and am very happy with it. Great wind protection, great look and I can look over it as well.

Did you ever think about cut it down to size. Tape it up and draw out your cut line. Trim an inch or so off. Give it a ride.

A 10" Ultra is going to give you all the protection of your stock 12" and more. I'm 5'8" with 30" inseam and use a 7" Ultra in light grey since it works well with both stock seat and my lower solo seat. I started w their 8" classic in med. grey and it's too tall w lower solo seat but fine w stock. I was also a tester for the X-stream and have tested the 7",8" and now the 9", they slope back so you have to add at least an inch. I also found that I like the light grey X-Stream the best since even though your looking over most of the time it's nice to have the close visibilty in the city and rain. I would give them a call, if you keep film on I think you can exchange but of coarse the shipping then eats up any savings.

Just take a few inches off the bottom, much easier, mark your holes with a punch, drill and install.

that's what i did---- bought take off H-D lexan shields from other riders -cheep! ( they HAD to go bucks up for the custom shields, and thought the stock shields worthless).

used my shield as a template to trace the cut line ON THE BOTTOM- and used a rotozip to do the cut.
took minutes, cost pennies.

I now have -1", -2" and -3" shields. The -1" was too tall I gave to a Pal.
the -2" is perfect on the highway, I look over but can tuck into if it rains, the bugs go over my head

the -3 is good for in-town, but the bugs hit right between the eyes!

Lexan vs other materials- I do not know a thing about the various materials available- I do know that my stock H-D Lexan windshield took an apple-sized rock that would have seriously injured me at highway speed.
Lexan didn't break, neither did my face.

I got the 9" ultra flip up in a Med Gray during thier last sale. It works great for me. My line of sight is right over the shield. The color is never an issue. I can still see the road at night looking thru the shield if needed. Bugs go right over with the flip up. Only had one big junebug hit my helmet once while riding. I am 5' 11 +/- 1/2". Ride a 2010 limited with the lowrider stock replacement seat.
