i'm looking to get a tourpak for my ride. i had a chopped tourpak on my road king, but since it was white gold pearl, instead of repainting it when i bought the black denim road glide, i sold it to a buddy with a white gold pearl street glide.
now, i only use the tourpak a couple of times a year. so i hate to spend the hd bucks if i can get away cheaper. i read a while back about someone who was making 'clones' of the hd tourpaks. i can't find it now, but if anyone knows who makes a 'virtually identical' tourpak to hd, i would appreciate it.
i'm not looking for reviews on mutazu, etc..... i want a tourpak that is the same dimension as the hd one. preferably chopped, but i guess i could go king if i absolutely had to.
FWIW, I was also researching an alternative to the HD tour pack. I was unable to find a single pack that didn't have a massive amount of negative reviews. I have decided that, until I'm ready to spend the $ on the HD pack, I'm just going to get a T-Bag Lonestar. I borrowed my buddy's one time and absolutely loved it. It's just slightly smaller than the King Tourpack in total cubic inches and much less expensive.
There are a couple companies that make replicas out of fiberglass. Direct replacements for HD parts but they are just gel coated.....they need to be finished. I found them on ebay awhile back. Search for tour pak.
thanks. don't like the lid they use, but this is the kind of stuff i'm looking for. been looking on ebay, but that is cyclical, but maybe when i'm ready to buy, there will be one on there.
****edit: and surprise, i found one. it isn't genuine harley, but they make a fibreglass tourpak in all 3 sizes, razor, chopped, and king. $225.00 and and extra $115.00 if you want latches (free install). free shipping. comes in gel coat black.
My co-worker/riding buddy bought a power products line tourpak, from the outside looks just like HD, inside is rough and coarse barely finished but functional; none of the aftermarket or HD liners fit it as it is off sized enough to beat copy right. Uses all standard mounts and does work reasonably well but if bought I would recommend a liner added of felt or carpet to cover the rough glass work; also buy it without hardware and install HD pieces(hinges, latches), the supplied stuff isn't very stout.
