I have found a 2001 roadglide with 4700 miles, bike has no mods, dealer maintained and is in excellent condition. guy wants 10,000. I have been looking for a while and can not find anything that has compared in price compared to condition.I have a limited budget and this fits. Is there anything special that I should be concerned with in considering this bike.
Cam chain tensioners are a problem with these TC88 engines til 07. this one should be good til 30,000 but i'd have them looked at at 15000. Mine were about 50 percent at 13000 so i went with gear drive cams to do away with the tensioners. An upgrade is available with the new 07 style hydraulic that wear better than the old style.
Make sure you know how it was stored. That's not much mileage so it must have been sitting for extended periods of time. Have your own mechanic check it out. It would be good to know where it came from too. You don't want a bike that was pulled out of a flood and cleaned up.
Go get it checked out where the guy had it maintained and ask them what's been done to it. That's super low mileage. It might just be a really sweet deal.
Sounds like good deal for a bike with less than 500 miles per year .. Echoing the above, inquire as to storage, try to look in fluid reservoirs with a pen light or something..I'd hate to see a fuel tank full of rust.
2011 has a good point-- get some good history on the bike -
Figure on buying tires pronto as the ones that are on it are probably dry rotted at best.
Figure on a thorough fluid service just to make sure you are fresh with everything.
As stated above I would be most concerned about the tires even if they look good, see if they have been changed in the last year or two. If not call up Jake Wilson and get a fresh set of E3's on it. Sounds like a great ride!
