Hey guys (and gals). I ride a sportster & have been lusting for a Street Glide either as a primary or 2nd bike. Right now, I'm only interested in a used one. I know the touring bikes went through some major changes in the past few years, but what is the difference in the '09 & '10 models? Thanks.
Assuming you are in the US, the major difference would be the exhaust. The 09's didn't have cats in the header. The 10's do. If you want any sort of good sound and/or power, grab an 09. If you grab a 10, try and find an 09 take off exhaust to put on it.
2009 has stock dual pipes, the 2 into 1 into 2. The 2010 has 2 into 1 exhaust. Some people like the performance of 2 into 1 but some prefer the symmetry of dual exhaust. The catalytic converter on mine was replaced with a new head pipe and vance and hines twin ovals and seac and sert before I brought it home. Another option was to section head pipe and remove cat but with labor and reinstallation, it was just a little more to do trual dual head pipe and no welding joint-which is hidden by heat shield. Either year is an incredible bagger imho. good luck
Like others have said it's the exhaust. 2010 had 2 into 1 which could not have been very popular because they went back to 2-1-2 in 2011. Also if you do get a SG, it WILL become your primary. It's very versatile in touring and just cruising around town
The big differences between the 09 and the 10 were the dual exhaust in 09. The other change was to 5th gear in the 10. They updated the 5th gear to get rid of the whine. I actually liked the old 5th gear whine.
The good thing now is that there are many options for pipes on the 10s now. If you want the 2 into 1, there are options and if you want true duals there are many options.
I would look at the colors and decide if there was a color in 1 year that I wanted and then look for the best price.
Have fun searching. Most of us replace pipes at least once...
Why would you want to go through that hassle? Just put some decent aftermarket pipes on and be done.

True, but my reasoning is that I don't know what the OP is trying to achieve. For all I know he could be a stock kind of guy or no more than stage 1 (which would consist of mufflers only and not the headpipe).
No standard tail light on the '10 either. They got the taillight in the blinkers. Some like it some are scared by it. They went back to a tail light for '11.
