I have been doing a bit of research and learned there are a few brands that, although they are popular, may not be able to meet my needs. Looking for advice from other members and thier experiences with thier aftermarket suspension! (Before I drop the Cash!)
Looking for a smooth, reliable set to last me many thousands of miles.....
I have been doing the same research for the past year, I concluded after reading many many threads here and in a few other sites that the following suspensions are great to good - in order. My conclusions are based on the amount of historical info here and the quality of the feedback. This particular mod is expensive and will change your whole bike so do your research here, at other HD sites and at each companies web site and call them.
Ohlins
Race Tech (Gold Emulators)
Progressive
Ricor
Works
If you do a search function using the words above as keywords you will find lots of info here.

I've had Ohlins on my bike for almost a year and they are the best mod I have done. Bike rides very smooth, no bottoming and I am still as happy today as when I first got them. Of course then you will realize how bad the front suspension is and that might be your next mod.
Definately one mod where you need to get it right the first time due to the expense. Lots of reading here on all those brands.
I have to disagree with your ranking, I ran Ohlins(not on a Harley) and they are great, I've run Ricor and they are excellent, I've run Progressive 940's and they are very good, no complaints with either, but if you are ranking Ricor at the bottom of your list you are way off, they would be toward the top of the list

TJ I wont disagree with you on the ranking it was a toss up between the progressives and the Ricors, but there was a lot more info and a lot more history available for HD applications on the Progerssives, that was the major reason for me putting them on top of the Ricors.
Next to motor work this is the most expensive mod on the bike, I have to come down on the side of long proven history before I spend the $.Like wes said above you have to get it right the first time ofr I can be a very expensive mistake. Again these are my thoughts only, but appreciate your opinion too, good info there.

I have a set of Progressive 412's on my 2010 FLTRX. I paid 263 for them on Dennis Kirk. Took 10 minutes to change. I debated long and hard about getting the more expensive ones for the warranty and the ability to hand adjust for the ride. I lime the number 2 setting for solo. With the wife it's the number 3 setting. I leave it on 3 because you need a spanner wrench to adjust them. Bike rides like a dream with these on it. Couldn't beat it for the money.
I just put Progressive Monotube Cartridges in my forks and wanted to upgrade my shocks as well on my 99 FLHRCI. I went with a set of 09 shocks since they are valved better than my old ones and can handle a bigger load. I wanted to keep the ease of adjustment since im constantly hooking and unhooking a trailer or losing a passenger and Tbag. I just didnt want the hassle of removing bags to adjust the preload. We will see come spring if I made the right choice.......cant be any worse than the original shocks.
