Default Update on problems

Well I'm back, hope I have my issues taken care of and thought I would just drop in to update my saga

My 09 Ultra came upon some issues at the last dyno tune, which was intended to map away some pinging. We ended up discussing a few other issues, the compensator, the starter clutch, oil out the air cleaner and clutch slipping in the taller gears when wicked.

So I brought her in to the dealer and here is where we ended up. Compensator for cost of part, starter clutch - warranty. Decided to go with electric compression releases and a stronger clutch spring (on me).

So here is the big surprise. A day after I dropped her off the shop called and said I probalby wanted to drop by to "see this", never sounds good. So while the heads were off to drill for the CR, they noticed the rings had rotated and in doing so had come out of the groove a little, which got into the piston (front) and put a mark on the cylinder wall. Could be part of the blow by problem too.

So the top end was an S & S 106 and when I called them about it and mentioned it was the second time the ring problem had happened to me in the last 12K miles or so, they said they were aware of the issue and had re designed the ring lands, but would ship new jugs, pistons, rings, gaskets etc at no cost and eat the labor to boot!!!

My only decision was to stick with the 106 or drop back to a 103 which I did considering I am in way deep on this thing and plan to keep it, and can re-bore a couple of times at least, instead of maybe once with the 106.
Pretty much happy with how it turned out............should pick her up later this week. Whole thing probably under a grand!

While, true it's a hassle and half. I'd say S&S stepped up to the plate on that. Good news for you.

What is your reason for electric compression releases? I’m about to do a 103 upgrade to mine and I will go with the manual releases as there is less to go wrong.

Running higher compression set makes turning over the motor harder on the starter. There are manual CRs and electric, I went with the electric and they open as the motor turns over. From what I have found out, CR is recommened for bigger bores

Oops, didn't read the whole question, one reason was I put the cylinder bridges on and the manuals would't extend high enough without some type of extention and I guess I am just lazy besides.........hit the button, and we're ready to go
