I took a set to the leather shop that were saggy scrathed outta wack and just plain ugly to see if they could fix them she said stuff it with wet newpaper. Huh well this morning i decided to tacle the project. Wet newspaper wasn't gonna cut it! i filled the tub with hot water submerged the bags let them soak 30min wiped them down with olive oil packed them very tightly with what ever i could find (old clothes) i used a hammer handle to get in the small spaces and wa-la! Ofcoarse this is after paying $1300 for a new set! I am now going to sale this set.
Copious amounts of Lexol were good for my 56 FLH bags. I would recommend staying away from neatsfoot oil. It seals the leather and makes it more difficult to soften. Any treatment with a high glycerine content will be good.
Any ideas as to what I should ask for these bags now? Craigslist/Ebay which is better? They look like the Heritage bags "bertha" style however they dont have the frindge? I cant find and info on them OR any others like them for sale anywhere. I have the part number however the dingos at my harley shop gave their "i dont care" shrug. So any info anyone has would help me alot.

Diva...
Those bags are from either a 1999 or a 2000 Heritage Springer.
Fringe has been removed. The bags are still available through order at HD.
An ebay listing is the best way to go. You'll probably get $500 or more for them.
+1 on tack shop. I can't remember the name of it now, but they sold me something that I used to use on my basketweave duty belts (law enforcement days) . It comes in a bottle that looks like PVC pipe glue and applies kind of the same. You can probably find it on net. good stuff, put an almost hard but flexible shiny finish on it that kept it looking new even after it was worn out. Also came with a pre-coat that "re-blacked" it. Also wasn't expensive and one coat lasted like 5-6 months of daily wear and tear...
