If mine end up fogging like my last bike did, I'll change the gauges to the Dakota digital. I ran the Dakota digital in my last ride after I went through two sets of factory gauges. The fogging eventually ruins the gauge face. The Dakotas never fogged and I ran them in all weather extreems for 8 years.
I had a 2003 and washed the inside face of the faring- gauge side. for the next 5 years the gauges always fogged up. especially the fuel gauge. I even took it out once and blew hot air into it with a hair dryer to dry it out, and it still fogged up. I got my 2009 in sept 08 and I still am very careful when I wash it to keep the water off the gauge side of the fairing. So far the gauges have never fogged up. I clean the inisde face with paper towels with windex on them now. I still dont think the problem is solved but I dont want to find out the hard way with foggy gauges, so no water for me. I even tried silcone in the inside ring of that 2003 fuel gauge and dielectric grease on the light bulb socket and the gauge still fogged up.
Ah now I feel right, one of the mounting bolts for my parade fan broke. It rattles and buzzes. The parts are on order but for now I have gone through SEVERAL tie wraps (Zip Ties) Unfortunately these are rubber cylinders with bolts sticking out of BOTH ends so the fan is truly rubber mounted. I do not have my own garage to rig something better so that's my best fix until those slackers at the factory quit taking their lazy old holiday vacations / factory shutdown, and get me some new DAVIDSON PARTS!
Screamin' Eagle Fuel Gauge Fog Kit is available from your local Harley Dealer as an aftermarket upgrade for only $129.95. Standard Fog is available only in the upper 48 states where the temperatures regularly drop below the dew point...this doesn't happen in Hawaii much. Warning! Failure to properly install the Fog Kit upgrade may result in catastophic fuel gauge failure which may result in injury or death.
Mine fog coming out of the garage backwards every time we ride......Hold it, that's it! BACKWARDS. I knew I was doing something wrong here. Its not the gauges, I need to turn around in the garage and ride it out....NUTS!
