Default 09 flhtp

I know that the Police bikes in 09 had the 103". I believe they have an oil cooler as well.
Can anyone tell me what cams they have? How is the performance? Do they need more upgrades?
Any input from someone with a police bike on the pros and cons would be great.

I know the lids open *** backwards on the saddlebags and the wiring is different I think. What else can you tell me?
I found an 09 with very low miles for $15 and I am very tempted to go from my WG to this bike.

Pretty sure they did NOT have upgraded cams. Just the bigger jugs.

I think the cams are the same as a stock 96". They all have the 103"(which is higher compression at 9.6 than the 103 upgrade at 9.2), oil cooler, 50amp charging system, heavy clutch spring, Heritage Softail bars (great), and automatic compression releases in the heads. There are a lot of wires on the bike, but if the dealer preps it right you won't see any of them. I changed the headers, mufflers, intake, and added a Fuelpak. It runs great. One thing to be aware of is that Harley did not put a Cat in the headers of the 2009 models, so you can keep them and save some money.

As far as the bags opening, don't let them scare you away...you'll love them. You can get into them while sitting on the bike. The "pucks" are ugly but you get used to them and for a few bucks you can get nice puck covers.

You will want to buy the "Police Supplement" to the service manual...it's got all kinds of good info on the wiring...it is very different than a normal bike wiring.

I rode a police Road King for years and loved it. That sounds like a good price, especially for the new frame, 103", etc. As long as it hasn't been abused, I'd go for it!

Good luck,
Ron

That is correct.

Also, make sure that the Steering head has been updated (the '09 initially had a design error that increased the turning radius markedly), and make sure the ECM has been re-flashed for the latest ABS download (effective +/- August 2009).

I bought an 09 FLHTP a year ago. It was one of the MOCO's demo fleet, so it had not exaclty been babied. Crash bars & floor boards were scraped up pretty good, nothing that E-bay and Fourm Classifieds couldn't take care of.
I can't add anything to what has already been said about factory stock equipment. I had the dealer install cruise & heated grips and once I got her home, I added a SE Air Cleaner and my old V&H slip on mufflers and one of Jamie's PC-Vs from FuelMoto.
Now it will run good right out of the ebox, but HOOOOO BOY, the PC-V will really wake it up. She is still running too hot to suit me, so I am about to put a FulSac ceramic head pipe on, after I wrap it with heat tape. Next on the wish list after that will be the Auto Tune to go with the PC-V and maybe som 555 cams.
The cop seat is apparently a love it or hate it proposition. I didn't care for it. My 30 inch inseam just didn't work, so I put a pillow look seat on, which recently underwent the Mean City Cycles memory foam update.
I kept the Tour Pack, stereo, mufflers, air horns, etc off of my '02 Standard when I traded, so I wound up with my very own Limited, for $16k. IMO, this is the way to go, if you can find a good used police bike. Gives you plenty of tinker room!!!

Thanks for the replies. I think I may go play let's make a deal. Then of course the AC, PCV and Rhinehart true duals.

Now one more question, Anyone want to buy a 2005 WG with 26000 on it?

I picked up an 09 FLHTP outta' Greeley CO this summer with 1100 miles on it.
I put on the stage one AC, Jackpot mufflers & PCV from Jamie & crew at Fuel Moto.
This bike has a lot more ***** than my 09 Heritage.
I also removed the Police seat (too high to keep the bike stable when stopping, especially on un-even pavement) and have a few seats I like. A Mustang two up for longer hauls, a stock street glide seat for around town and a Danny Gray solo. (I bought too many seats)
I removed the hockey pucks, even though i love hocke - go Wings - and went with the squadfitters push button latches.
Last week I dropped the back end 2".
I've changed out a bunch of chrome and added a shorter smoked windshield.... more stuff than I can remember usually
I LOVE my Police Glide - A lot of guys think I have a Street Glide.
