I just bought a 07 UC it has 40,000 miles. new years eve it got to 50 degrees so i took it for a ride. while on a ride i was pulling up my gloves so both hands were off the bars. that didnt last long before the front end wobbled like crazy. I tried it a 10mph and at 55mph and either way they wobbled like mad. Is that normal or do i need a new front tire it is getting kinda low on tread. I had it up on the frame jack and checked the front end it seemed tight... just dont know what would cause it my softail i could ride plenty long to do what i needed to do without any hands on the bars.
I would start with year steering head bearing swing check. If that is good. Chances are it's in you motor mounts. I just installed the Glide-Pro set up. Man what a difference it made on my bike. Go to his site and look at the videos. They are long but might help you.
My Street Glide did this, I thought I had a real problem. Dealer checked the bike and said change the front tire. I did and the problem went away.
i like this. start with the lease evasive first, then move on to more evasive stuff. check air pressure, balance, all that stuff first. as it is the cheapest. and if it works, cool. if not, then go on to the next stuff. take the tire off of the rim, and check the rim for straightness. never know how many curbs the previous owner hit before he sold it to you.... you can check the steering head with a "swing test". and while you have the front end up, do a simple pull on the front end. mine was loose once, caused all sorts of bad handling, shakes, wobbles, almost 'tank slapping' in curves, hopefully that is not the case. make sure there is plenty of grease in the neck too. taking the entire front end apart to replace steering head bearings is a bit much for a simple front end wobble especially on a 3-4 year old bike. as is replacing the motor mounts..... although, all of my motor mounts have been replaced with urethane..... it might very well be A problem, or THE problem, but, start with the little stuff first.
I would love to help you but I have yet to perfect the laying on of hands across the internet. I guess you will have to do this yourself or hire someone the do the same as you can do. By asking someone on the internet what your problem is is like going to one of those online preachers and asking him/her what is wrong.

my 07 ultra did this, thought it had to do with hitting a deer.got me a shiny new 11
yup, that would do it..... sorry about your luck, but glad you are ok. my brother Ed died in 2005, when he hit a deer on his fat boy, riding on 94th infantry div road, heading into colorado springs.
you are extremely lucky. i hope you bought a lottery ticket afterward.

My front tire was somewhat cupped and replacing it fixed the wobble like you are experiencing. If your front tire is "low on tread", it needs replacing anyway. Change it and see if that fixes your problem...
