Looking to upgrade stereo head unit, have a j&m amp and speakers would like to put in a good stereo, any ideas, that will work with stock controls? what are you using?
I run an Alpine 9886m marine ,I had 2 Sony marine m60 units that both got water damage, even covered.I would buy a Marine grade ,cause of the moisture problems and also ,display is brighter on these models.I would also look at kenwood. I am running biketronics module to allow me to use my hand controls, and it is the only one I know of that uses AVC.

I'm running an Alpine X-100 with J&M's speakers and the ARC mini amp. Can't complain. I'm running the hawgwired control module for the hand controls. There isn't just one like the previous posters state. It's part# HUA 360. It's not cheap, but it does the job!

GP was NOT saying that Biketronics offers the only module that allows handlebar control of aftermarket head units; he was saying that Biketronics has the only modules that retain Automaic Volume Control (AVC) that automatically changes head unit volume based on bike speed (like the OEM HD radios); the Hawg-wired module doesn't provide AVC. Both BT and HW modules work fine. I had the BT/Sony head unit combo on my '04 EG for almost 4 years/40K+ miles and it worked flawlessly.
As for head units, check first with BT and/or HW for compatible head units and choose the head unit that has the features you want and ask them about any reliablility issues; they probably know more about that than anyone a both have good reputations.

Hey, if you upgrade and want to sell your J&M stuff give me a yell.

I have a Sony DSX-S300BTX on my Street Glide, and used the Hawg Wired Dash kit to mount the radio and an AXXESS ASWC to retain the handlebar functions (the Hawg Wired interface would not work with this stereo). The Sony stereo has am/fm and does not play cds, but the front face folds down and there is a TUNE TRAY to put your MP3 player, ipod, zune, walkman, etc. and uses a USB connection behind the face of the radio to play through the stereo....I love it!!
