Wonder if anyone has ever used rattle can on the inner fairing and cap. That krylon Fuzion makes a pretty good product. It's not base/clear but I would think done right no one would ever notice the difference.
Thanks for the responses folks... I agree the batwing inner fairing won't see much use and should hold up great... I am running a roadglide tho and I'm in and out of the glove boxes all the time, and my ipod cable dangles from the radio front down to my right glovebox pretty much 100% of the time I am riding. But if that becomes an issue, maybe a couple small pieces of that 3m stuff to protect from rock chips would prevent scratches from cables and fingernails and such.
Painted saddlebag latches may give you a better idea of how "delicate" painted inner fairings are provided the inner is painted much the same as the latches. If you're concerned about normal wear and tear with the glove box doors, ask the painter for a bit more clear coat and/or go with the paint protection film you mentioned.
Also, consider a new thread asking about wear and tear on RG painted inner fairings, especially the glove boxes, from ipod cables, fingernails, and any other possible hazard you can contemplate.
You can also try posting on the cvoharley forum in the FLTRSE section and asking your question there since the '09 and newer SE RG's have painted inner fairings as OE.
