Default Painted inner fairing

I have a 2010 Ultra Limited, FLHTK. White Ice Pearl and Black Ice Pearl.
My brother who owns a body shop was unable to get paint or a formula to mix the White Ice Pearl.
I went to the dealer to buy paint and they could not find a number to order, they said it was a new color for 2010. Plus they said this 3 part paint would cost about as much as buying a painted fairing from HD.
So I ordered the fairing, 58468-10DBV
Received it yesterday, have not compared it to my bike yet, for color match.
But my question is... wrote on the back of the painted fairing in magic marker is "08DBV", Does that mean this is a 2008 color and they just changed the name ??
I wonder if all of the White Pearl colors are the same except for the name ?
My 07 Deluxe was White Gold Pearl... which we can mix that color.

I'm not sure that's what "08DBV" means.
But I do know this...
You could have taken your paint code to any PPG paint dealer and bought the paint.
Yes, even the 3 part paints.
PPG is the supplier for HD.

Bad pig is right. My painter uses PPG, has his own mixing station, and it matched perfectly. Youdefinately need to use PPG

Idiots! If you want to buy HD paint, they should have easily been able to find the part numbers.

White ice pearl
top coat pn#98609DAD quart
base coat (glacier white pearl) 98609BNX superseded to 98628BNX

Black ice pearl
top coat pn#98609DAD quart
base coat(vivid black) pn#98609DH superseded to 98628DH

Notice the "ice" top coat is the same for both colors? The cost of paint would be:

98609DAD $116.00
98628BNX $116.00
98628DH $80.30

Since your brother owns a shop you shouldn't need to buy the clear from HD, but if you did that would be 98628EK $80.30

The total for paint would be $312.30 without the clear or $392.30 with the clear. Assuming your brother wouldn't charge you, the paint is a shitload cheaper than buying the fairing for $549.95 by almost $240.

So in hindsight, not only did the dealer not find you the pn#'s that are at their fingertips, but also told you the wrong information about how the MOCO fairing would be cheaper!

Although chalk one up for the dealer because had they sold you the paint, they would have only made $125.49 profit. Selling you the painted fairing, they make $165 profit............maybe they're not so dumb after all!

Dawg, do those paints also require the purchase of the Urethane "activator"? IIRC, the HD quart size paints require a separately purchased 8 oz. can of activator; a fact I recall well from four years ago when my dealer parts guy ordered the paint but forgot the needed activator.

Yes, 99825-02 $44.30 but I didn't know if the brother's shop would have some urethane activator as well.

Sounds like it's WAY cheaper and 100% mistake proof tobuy the one from the MOCO.

At 20% off, ( that saves $100), and selling the used one on EBAY for $110,.................this becomes a no brainer. No worries about workmanship or colormatch !!

Find a dealer that gives 20% off, and go from there.

Where did you find it for 20% off? I'm finding it for $495 at Chicago HD, and $462 at Zanotti's. List price is $550

sooooo many experts!!!

I am the "brother"....HD does not release some, especially new colors, so they can be mixed.

I have a Standox mix system and I am able to mix many many HD colors...(they just released the Sunglo, last year for instance)....

PPG...does not even have the code for the white ice pearl...with 35 years of doing this...don't ya think we would have thought of that and called a different jobber (maybe the jobber gave me bad info...I doubt it)???...it not my first rodeo...lol

Also...other than what ya heard/read on the internet....where is the hard core info..HD only uses PPG???....I would bet if you went into the CVO shop...you would see all brands.....jus saying!

have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
