Default Serviced myself..Questions

Got busy on Saturday to do servce on all 3 holes..Went smooth till went to do PRIMARY..Dealer must have done a good job putting that sucker in cause I stripped it trying to get it out..I did end up winning using an impact driver on it to break it free..Anyways here is the question. Last time I looked in to adjusting the chain, I took note of where the oil level was. In the book it says 32 OZ..When I dumped out what dealer had in, there must have been more like 40 or more..With bike on jack and level, it was right up to almost pouring out of the hole that you would adjust chain thru..So question is who is correct. I ended up opening up clutch inspection cover and man is that hard to see the level in..I ended up likely at about 37 OZ to bring it up to where I think is touching the bottom ring of the clutch assembly..Is 32 correct..Is what the dealer had correct..Or what I put in correct..Using a flashlite I can see the oil has crested over where the primary starts to bulge out and the bottom ring is in oil.....I guess bottom line..Anyone know what each hole holes in OZ..I find manual for say trani gives between so much and so much....Why such a variable amount...Do they not know how much they want in there...Book for PRIMARY says 32 OZ...Dealer puts in 40 Plus.....Whats the POOOOOP..

Go to "oil related" topics and search on "primary oil amount". There's a few posts on your question. I know my bike takes 1 quart and that brings it up to the bottom of the clutch plates. I've read that it may take a little more on some bikes.

For my 2005 RK the owners manual and the service manual have different info. One says to just add 32 oz (service manual, I believe). Owners manual says to add until it's at the bottom of the clutch spring. If you check with those who do this for a living, like our very own Shovelhead Bob, the correct method is to fill until it's at the bottom of the clutch spring. Many will tell you to just add a quart and go. That may work but it's not necessarily correct. Check the owners manual and the service manual for your model motorcycle and see what it says.

Is 32 oz.(1qt.) a misprint in the service manual?
