your bike will never get that old harley sound. i have an evo in another bike and they have that genuine harley sound that we all remember. the pans and shovels also rock in that respect.
Not a whole lot you can do with a stock fuel injected twin cam motor to get the lumpy Harley idle. Bolt a set of SE204 cams and a 2-2 exhaust and you'll get a little closer to the sound, but it won't be as nasty as a shovel or even a carbureted evo.
If you want that real harley sound, forgo $5000 in upgrades to you street glide and buy your self a nice shovelhead.
That's the solution!
On later engines, including evos, the correct tick-over is around 1,000rpm. Book may vary a little away from that. Oil pressure may be a consideration, but another is crankshaft speed. The slower the tacho speed, the more the rotational speed varies, with the crank slowing as it reaches each compression cycle, then accelerating after each. Not good for bearings etc!
So keep tickover where it belongs! Shovels can cope with a slower tick-over because they have heavier flywheels, to keep things smoooooth.
are we going by the famously inaccurate harley gauges? lol
I swear my 07 shows 1100+ cold idle and well under 1000 hot idle at time. Oddly enough, it sounds fine. I highly doubt it is 800rpms like I think I've seen.
I'll have to pay more attention to it now, thx alot....lol
