Regarding removal of the headlight bucket to make reinstalling the outer fairing easier:
ORIGINAL: ROLLNTIGER
There are three green tabs located on the mounting screws for the headlamp housing. Press em in and remove the headlight assembly.
The firstattached pic shows the green tabs on the rear of the headlight bucket

Now you can see the mounting hooks attached to the frame. Lift the fairing and look thru the hole and set it on.
The secondpic shows how visible the hooks are.

I had my fairing off to install the light sensor for my headlight modulator and thought to capture these two pics.

here is the trick to installing it:

when it is off unsnap the headlight assembly and remove then you have no problem hooking the fairing back on the hooks. the headlight assembly then just snaps back in no problem. have had mine off many times.

Yeah, putting the fairing back onto the two metal hooks is kinda tuff. I'm not really sure why they hook or don't hook, other than it just suddenly hooks up. One time, I came close to pushing the bike backward off the floor jack tryin to get that connection. Other than that, everything else is simple and straight forward.
I can't believe 12 RG owners replied to this thread before anyone posted this info. The headlight trick makes reinstall a simple task. If you use the procedure in the manual, you may never get it back on right or may actually damage your fairing.
It really isn't anything to fear, 5 minutes off, 5 minutes back on, piece of cake!

It is a bit of a well-kept secret. I was at one of the HD dealers last Friday talking with the guys at the parts counter. Two of `em had RGs, the one I was talking to had never heard of this trick...

This tip has to rank in the top 5 for Road Glides. I replaced a burnt out bulb in 30 minutes first time out. Thanks for the info.

Unfortuantely I don't have them anymore, but fortuantely the green thingies are really easy to see once you have the cap off!
