Anyone who lives in a northern state knows the value of synthetic oil in their cars, which spin over freely even at 30 below. You can't believe the noise the same engine running conventional oil will make, IF it turns over and starts at 30 below. Just put a quart of each in your freezer for a day, than try and pour it out. You'll immediately see and appreciate the difference.
In your air cooled motor, you only have to get the engine hot once during an oil change to destroy much of the viscosity of conventional oil. With the high temperature stability of synthetic oil, you don't have to worry so much about engine heat destroying your oil.
Honestly your much better off to read the independant lab reports comparing different oils and read how the different tests show the strengths and weakness's of each brand.Reading the thousands of threads on the forums will only confuse you because of all the bias.Good Luck
If you are willing to change the oil more often, I see no benifit from using syn oil. Depending on where you live ( is it hot, cold, dusty) should help you decide to change more often. IMO every 2500 to 3000 miles is fine for average non syn oil you can go longer with syn oil so the cost my become a mute point if you change it every 5000 miles.
Does any one know exactly what makes up HD 360, I know if you rub between finger is slick as STP. Harley has been running 360 for many years,( knowing more cc,s more heat ), heck they were forced into syn because oil manufactorys wanted to increase their profits and convinced consumers that is what they need. Harley is addressing heat issue with oil cooler and EMITS, if lot idle parrade fans. They warrenty their engines using 360 for two years tells me something. I will use 360 and change every 3000 instead of recommended 5000. JUST MY RIDE AND OPPINION!
