I buy the majority of my items from the US as well. The price difference is just too great and I'm only 45 minutes from a US Harley Dealer (Plattsburgh, NY).
With a 20% or more difference in the prices in Canada vs the US, you can be sure I'll be buying my new tires and parts in the states this year. Buddy went a bought a set of tires for his bike last summer. They were 450.00 here, he paid 275.00 installed in the US.
Hey guys, I'm well aware of Deeley's mafioso approach to doing business in Canada. He's sown up things with a deal from HDMC and makes every dealer pay a tribute (which gets passed down to us).
This thread's question was, "has anybody had success in replacing the stock compensator with a SE (with or without the $100 SE upcharge)? Our American brothers seem to be able to do this almost routinely...
I find this disturbing and thought I'd share this with the forum. I have been looking for pricing for the SE Compensator upgrade on the internet. As a matter of interest I have not been able to source the original part# for the compensator presently in use. At this point in time US / Can dollars are for all intents at par. I can purchase the SE Compensator, part #40274-08, out of the States for $228.00, out of Canada for $310.00. Hardly seems right. I have yet to find out how much my local dealer wants.
Here is what I just installed on my '08 RKC:
COMPENSATOR ASSY PT# 40274-08 $ 217.46
Purchased from M&Ms. Price does not include shipping.
The install is very easy. The hardest part was grinding the primary to provide clearance but it's really not that difficult to do. BTW, I made my own tool for removing the compensator instead of paying the ridiculous price H-D wanted (It's simply a piece of flat metal cut to the right length.).

Call area dealers to see if you get different answers. If I have to buy in Canada I deal with Rocky's in London. I hate dealing with the rip off artist here in Sarnia.
