Factory Service Manual

I read a few posts about the bad bindings on the factory service manuals. I took my manual to Staples and asked them if I could get them to cut the old binding off and rebind it.They offered me several solutions to my question and the price varied from $7.00 to $12.00, depending on the cost of the materials used. I got a spiral binder, a plastic cover on the front, and a black plastic cover on the back. The manual now is able to lay flat on my bench. I can also fold it completely back on itself so that I can make a copy of the page that I need and it is sort of protected from spills. The whole process took them less than an hour to do and cost me $12.00. I am pretty sure that other places will do this as well. I don't know if Staples is the cheapest around or not but I'm well satisfied with the outcome, and I thought that I'd share this with you.

Looks like it will be good for laying open as you may look back at a Pic. Price sounds right too.

I called my Staples awhile ago and they said it could not be done by them in one binding--too thick. Was your Staples able to do the entire manual or did you have to break it in two? Thanks.

FedEx Kinko's will do it also. It does make it nice to lay flat.

I had them cut it in two and then slice the binding off. No problem after that!

Just to clarify my answer. Once they split the book in half, they were able to cut off the binding. After the binding was removed, they were able to punch the holes in the two half books. When the holes were punched, they were able to put the entire book back together again with the spiral binder.
