Being in Mississippi we get some heat here too. I run oil coolers on my bikes, and they do make a difference.

With your bike seeing 270 with a cooler, you might benefit more from a tune than another oil cooler.

Oh, are you running a fork baffle during the summer? If so, removing that will get a little more air over the engine, as will a tank lift kit.

I will tell you one disadvantage of the left side engine fan, it will bake your right leg at low speeds. That heat being blown off the engine goes somewhere and your leg is right in the way. I am sure it helps engine temps, but can play hell on your leg.

+1 The temp difference from Atlanta to Tampa is minimal. So if you'r oil cooler works there in Atlanta, it will work fine in Tampa. Honestly...save your $$. Buy some chrome instead.

I would agree with this but if you feel you have to do something more why not consider a heat sink? Something like this:

Or a reusable filter that acts as a heatsink like this (a better option I think)

living here in Tampa I can tell you many people with a good tune run no oil cooler at all without any issues, I run an oil cooler and it works fine, an additional oil cooler is not needed

The ambient humidity has a significant impact on an oil cooled engine's ability to cool itself.
A little off topic, but are you sure about that? I don't think that humidity effects the ability of objects to cool themselves if they do not sweat.

I'm curious and am going to check this out.

Default Oil Bud is a Great addon

Concerning the Oil Bud cooler, most folks miss the point about it being an aircraft quality extruded aluminum body. Reminds me of an aluminum piston. This means the "fins", which are really more like pegs, are integral with the body of the unit. They are unlike most of the heat exchangers you normally see, which have crimped or soldered flexible fins, which can be distorted quite easily be finger pressure or projectiles. You do not have to fear this cooler being damaged, even though it is under the oil pan, and exposed to road junk. It can even be used as a jacking plate when lifting the bike. Just the heat sink factor and extra oil capacity make this unit a winner imho.

Anyway, I am not a salesman for the company, just a satisfied purchaser of the product. Bought one for a 10 SG. Blows me away why HD would let a current TC bike leave the factory without an oil cooler. I live in Seattle, and extended idling with little movement is par for the course here.

The unit also has aircraft quality flare fittings/braided ss hoses, excellent quality adapter block for the filter. Yes, it's pricey. Only you can say whether it's cost is justified. Check out the video of the unit being blasted on the company website if you want evidence of it's durability.

YUP.

They should make a sweet looking one that fits nicely between the frame downtubes.

Two bikes, 09 SG and 10 RGC.
Dino oil, with PCV, fuelmoto maps - tuned.

Heading to Sturgis, Aug 3rd.
95 Degrees, Atlanta traffic. No where to pull off. Never a dead stop, creeping traffic. Oil temp gauges Peg at 350... cannot...pull off...to shutdown. Finally get to an exit and tend to my 3rd degree burns.

Aug 4th, 100 Degrees in Tennessee, both bikes ran at 280-300 degrees at 70 Mph.
Car wreck in Nashville. Hwy with concrete barriers on both sides, cars moving at 2 mph, creeping. Bikes are at 280 and go to 350 in less than 5 minutes. Pegged. Cannot...pull off...to..shutdown. I smell paint burning and the bike is literally baking.

Aug 5th. Changed the oil which is now like water...

FUN!

So now I have oil coolers and Synthetic Oil in both bikes. Hoping like hell we won't have a repeat of last year. However, if we do...we'll be a little more prepared.

Point? Hitting traffic when your oil temp is already 280+....sucks.
An oil cooler would have given us maybe a 15-20 Degree head start.

Just my experience.

Thanks for all the comments about Oil Coolers... You have all helped me decide on whether to get one or not.
