I just received an order yesterday from Zanotti's. Prior to ordering I contacted my local dealer, asked for an exact quote on 5 different items. Purchased them from Zanotti's with shipping included to my door and still saved money. The dealer quoted list prices with no discount. The order was over $500.00 I figure 75-100 bucks more in my pocket instead of the dealers was worth the wait.
I tried them once. I ordered an exhaust system and wanted it drop shipped to an address other than my home. They sent one with the wrong baffle and sent it to my house.
When I called I was told that I must have made a mistake when I ordered. I pointed out that it was a phone order and I specifically asked for the quite baffle, I was told they had no way of confirming that I had ordered a quite baffle and if I wanted to exchange the exhaust I would have to eat the shipping both ways.
As to ordering online, most offer free shipping (especially if you ask for it) if your order is above a certain dollar amount. Even if you pay for shipping you dont pay sales tax which is usually more than the cost to ship so you are still money ahead.
Online is the way to go with any online parts order as there is a clear and written record of the order and Zanotti's always sends a confirmation of the order with PNs, description and total price before they ship. If you don't check the confirmation order and there is a mistake, you had a chance so if you want to return or exchange, you are responsible for retrun shipping.I have been buying parts from Zanotti's for several years, have never had a bad experience and always saved money. On a large order, the will beat a local dealer's 10% discounted price.
It's true that there is often a part in my orders that will be on BO but Zanotti's receives a shipment from H-D every 4-5 days and that is about the max you would have to wait.
The only time I buy from the local dealer is for the one off item that I forgot to order or something I frakked up while working on a bike, like a lifte box gasket or something like that.
Butler actually, just outside of Pittsburgh. And as said good people and quite helpful. My last order I was replied to via email about 4 times before I made the purchase and was sure I was getting what I wanted. Pretty sure the guy that I was corresponding with was John.

Why should I be responsible to catch their mistakes? Yeah, it was the brand I ordered at the price they quoted.
When I was talking to them they suggested I call FedEx and, since the package had not been opened, claim that it wasnt mine. That way FedEx would have to return the package and no one would have to pay for it.
Do you want to deal with people who suggest you act dishonestly?

Don't get your panties in a wad. All I am saying is that when you order on the phone, you are relying on the person on the other end to get it right. We all have bad days and we all make mistakes but when the guy on the other end of the phone makes the mistake, it becomes a problem for the customer as well as problem for the seller and there is no written record of the transaction to place responsibility for the error.
Their suggestion to claim the package wasn't yours was one way of solving the problem; you did not have to follow through if you thought it was dishonest. On the other hand, Fedex has their own problems and has been a source of frustration for me on more than one occassion. I would not have any problem returning the favor.
All I am saying is that I have ordered thousands of dollars from Zanotti's, always via the internet and, if I have questions, their online help has been very helpful. I have never had a problem, always gotten the parts that I orderes and have never had bad experience.
I was not suggesting that you were in the wrong on your deal just suggesting that there is a better way and had you ordered via the internet, you would not have encountered the problem.
I have ordered exclusively through Zanotti's for many years for all my H-D branded parts. Off brand aftermarket parts I usually buy through Eastern Performance Cycles. I just got a pair of J&M 7.25 Road Glide speakers from them for $199.00 shipped due to their price matching.
I did my best to just grin and not laugh out loud when I saw my $635 Zanotti's SE cylinder heads in the HD display case for over $ 1100 - and that was before sales tax. Good grief! The savings practically covered the porting and machining...
Have you factored in the shipping charge? I never saw much difference from buying at HD when shipping was added.
It all depends on what's in your shopping cart.
Whenever I have a H-D part to buy, I check their price, add it to the cart, and check shipping. If it makes economic sense I buy there, if not it's off to a local dealer.
Most times it is cheaper to buy online, even with shipping.
