I listened to a lot prior to picking my slip-ons. I went went Khrome Werks 3.0" HP-Plus, and love them. They have a nice deep tone, and about 'medium' in the loudness spectrum.

I like the roar of a Harley as much as the next guy but we do long rides and I have a couple buddies that you literally can't be behind them for extended periods because their exhaust is too loud.
There are more mufflers out there than you can shake a baffle at ... but having replaceable baffles with different size baffles available is a big plus. Dollar for dollar you have to go a long way to beat Rush mufflers. If you get a set with 1.75" or smaller baffles you won't have to mess with the ECM either. I have a set on my 09 FLHTCU and they sound good. There was also some sound advice by RK Ivan .... check out the sounds at a Poker Run or Rally. Don't forget that motor changes will make the noise level different also.

Wild Pigs are the same pipes as Rush and use the same exact baffle choices for level of sound. I bought the 2nd's with 1.75 baffles. These are supposed to have a minor flaw somwhere, but I can't find it.

With a 2006 our slip-on baffles options are 1.75, 2.00, and 2.25. 1.75" being the most popular for long distance rides/radios/passengers and not obnoxiously loud. The 2.00" is the overall most popular providing a deep rumble and best performance gains. If you stick with the 1.75" and the rest of the engine and headpipes are stock, tuning should not be required but is still recommended.
Check out our new 4" mufflers as well!

We only manufacture our own products at a state of the art facility in NorthWest Indiana.

Best thing to do before any option is to go to a poker run, rally, dealer event or where ever there are a lot of bikes. Ask when you hear a nice sound you like. I was talked out of a couple of mufflers that I was considering because of this. That's my opinion. I know someone else stated that here also.

My RINEHART slip-ons on stock 96" are wonderfuly loud. Riders in back say not too loud. Some seem to enjoy them as much as I do.

I agree. Try a set of stock mufflers off a 2007 or newer bike. Those mufflers were re-designed for the 96" engine and let a 88" engine breathe nicely. The left muffler baffle end can be easily punched out. Running a set of 2007 Streetglide mufflers on my 2003 Ultra with a modified left baffle. Sounds and runs great, not too loud and a cheap upgrade.
