Default wind deflector

I thought i would post this in the touring section because i see a lot of them on touring bikes.

The wind deflector that is between the forks under the lower triple tree, does that make a noticible difference? On my dyna i have a windshield and it works pretty good, i dont have a big problem with buffeting like i hear alot of people talk about, but i get a lot of air rushing up between the tank and handle bars.

So i was wondering if that little wind deflector would help with that. I dont think i have ever seen one on a dyna but I'm sure one could be made to fit somehow.

They were stock on some TC88's, (it was on my '99 Roadking Classic). On the newer 96, 103, & 110's they are not recomended above 70 degrees because they apparently cause the cyclinder heads to run too hot.
I picked up a used one that I was thinking of putting on my 2010 103 Limited.
I was trying to come up with a way to install it with some sort of quick disconect fasteners that way I could remove it quickly as the weather nears 70 degrees and reinstall it on cooler days (kind of like chaps).

I run one on my FLHX. I do not have any more or less heat problems in hot weather with or without it. It does help keep the updraft from pushing my glasses up.

First, if you aren't using a batwing fairing, this won't apply. I don't want to hijack your thread but I wanted to answer your question about the fork deflector and pass some info to riders with batwings.

I hoped the deflector you're talking about would help with buffeting so I bought and installed one. Honestly, I don't notice any difference at all. I don't think the wind causing buffeting is coming in between my fork legs, I think it is coming over the outside of my forks (over the left and right side of my tank).

A company called Freedom Wings (I'm not associated in any way) makes air deflectors for batwing farings (like the ones now standard on the Ultra; however, they also make Freedom Wings Plus. These are smaller plexi deflectors that fill the gap that air passes through on the outside edges of the upper fork legs. See: http://www.freedom-wings.com/Plus_Facts.html

I bought and installed these (about $25) and they make a big difference. I also replaced my stock batwing air deflectors with the Freedom Wing product (about $75). I did this because the bottom deflector mounting hole on my Ultra was used as one mounting point for the stock deflector and I needed the hole to mount the Freedom Wing Plus (the aftermarket batwing deflector doesn't use this bottom hole). I probably could have "modified" the stock deflector so it would not use the bottom mounting hole but I like the looks and the function of the Freedom Wings (especially together with the Freedom Wings Plus).

Back to your Dyna, perhaps the fork leg deflectors (that I think work like the Freedom Wing Plus) would be a better solution for you than the deflector that goes between the forks (here's a link to an aftermarket pair - HD also sells deflectors like these): http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produc...fCatId=&mmyId=

Good luck! Bob

'09 RK ...Deflector helped but didn't 'eliminate' the buffeting problem. The part is inexpensive and shiney. Give it a try.

Yes! It was the final add to end the head rattle for me. Taller windshield with recurve, and the lower tree-deflector gizmo.
