Default 2007 RK Custom Problems

Just purchased a 2007 Rd King Custom having big time problems at startup. Very bad clunking noise followed by a dragging sound. This was a problem from the very start. HD said it was nothing, that it was normal for the 07. Well, 1300 miles later my bike is sitting in the shop with parts all over the floor. They installed a new starter new battery cable and tested it. Well that was just the start of it. They opened up the primary and found teeth missing on the ring gear and when they said they would order the part they called me later and said it was on back order, what's that tell you. They finally found one in Va and said it would be here on Friday.

I'm starting to loose the faith in the 07 from all I've heard. I find myself wishing I kept my 05 Classic, it ran like a top.

Any feedback would be appreicated.

Never buy the first year of any model. It's like software, never by a version that has dot zero in it.

The starter clunk is normal, the dragging sound is not normal, I have not heard any other complants about it. Sounds like bad starter to me, not a big deal.
How's the tranny sound?

The starter can be engaged with the bike running by pressing the Start button (I have seen it happen). I am sure under the right conditions that would cause something to loose some teeth. Would not surprise me if something like that happened right before delivery.
