I use Syn 3. I figure I would take the oil excuse as being the cause of the problem from the dealer if there ever is an issue while my bike is still under warranty.
Castrol has a new syn 20/50 that's supposed to be pretty good.
I put amsoil in my glide this past summer after 2 K and running dino up until then, and it seemed to help it with the heat a bit, but then it started chattering a little more than it had before in the valve train.
I may go back to regular, but I got some M1 VT and will try that next..

I have not heard much if any good about syn 3 though and that's fact.
Was at Wally World tonight and found Castrol 20-50wt full syn for V twins and it was marked down to $7.00 a quart. Bought all 8 quarts they had on the shelf. It's normally $8.92 a qt.
Welcome to the forum. Yep lots of flamers here, but it's mostly well meaning humor :>) This is my first Harley so I had a dealer put syn 3 for the 1k service then I put Mobil 1 vtwin in it at 5k. By the time I had 10k on it I'd had time to read just about everything sensible about the choices. Since I've been a long time fan of Amsoil in my autos I decided to use their oil in the bike too. I put 20W50 motorcycle oil in the engine and primary and severe gear 75W140 in the tranny. I can't tell any difference in the three oils in the engine other than the syn 3 looked like it was drained from a Detroit diesel (blaack as hell). the gear oil in the tranny however made a world of difference. Much smoother and quieter and shifts easier. It's also considerably easier to get it in neutral. It really is a matter of what you trust and have a good source for.
