I have a 09 Road King and I am going to put a tour pack on it! The easiest thing would be to get the detachable rack seeing as I already have the 4 point docking setup on the bike. The question being -
Wouldn't it be all to easy for someone to unclip it from the bike and take it? Seems that a hard mount would be a lot less easy to steal. Don't want to have to strip the bike whenever traveling.
Quick opinions/answers based on your personal experiences would be helpfull.
It is so handy to have the Quick-Disconnect , on/off in 5 minutes and I do not know of anyone getting their Tour Pak ripped off? Anyone on the board ever heard of that ?
I have a Tour Pack for my 2010 RG with the 4pt mount and detach gear. I use the locks, it may seem strange but given the chance some people will steal anything. I like the look of my bike better without thr tour pack, but it comes in real handy on road trips.
Without the locking devices, yes it could be removed and taken. Most people that use the quick detach end up leaving it on all the time anyway.
I will respectfully disagee with Dawg. My riding group of friends all have detachable tour paks and ours are off a vast majority of the time.
One friend has the HD lock set, which to me doesn't seem that secure. Another friend cable locks it at night while on the road. And I am too cheap and just take it off and bring it into the motel room.

Me too. I use the Tour Pak (not pack. those are on Hondas) on trips and when going somewhere I need the extra room. I take it off for week end rides. I have cable locked it when away from home, but found it is easier to take it off.
I have the hd locks and haven't taken it off for a while. I would take it off to bar hop but i don't do much of that. The locks would probably need to be drilled or hit with a chisel And a bfh to be broken, not bulletproof by any means but I would say it's as secure as the hard mount. Bolts can be cut too! I love the quick tach set up on my bike and wouldn't have it any other way.
