I think the big shocker is a kid being able to afford a bagger vs a sporty or something else. Don't sweat it. If they weren't giving you grief about your scooter it would be something else.
I get the same thing from the guys at work, I am 25 and traded my Rocker in on a RG last summer. They run there mouth (all in good fun) but I tell them "you will never find a better ride then a Glide".
Wow 04 road wish you were in my area i'd offer to have you join me and my friends for rides. we are mostly younger (cept my dad who joins us) and drive a variety of bike. never insult each other. it is about the ability to enjoy the ride not what you ride ( though we will cuss out your bike when having to push or repair it on the side of the road). dont let the comments bother you. wish i had a bagger when i totaled my truck and only had the bike for over a year. grocery shopping is a pain on a motorcycle.
When I was 21 I bought the very first 2002 vrod they dealer got. My dad told me to just get a bagger and be done. I shoulda listened to him, cuz I sold that pos 6months later. Then finally in 06 bought a streetglide. Btw the cougars love young guys on bagger! Enjoy!
Road Kings rock! You can cruise (sans windshield) or tour. Age is not a factor. I had bags on my bikes back in my 20s (40 years ago).
Now that you've felt the sting of stereotype, don't bash "Rice burners, etc."
I call it smart or being an individual. You obviously get what you like and are not influenced by outside sources. You probably did some research on what you liked and bought accordingly. Good for you. I was the same age as you with a bagger and never looked back and this was many years ago. It took me a while to figure out why everyone was looking at me...and here I thought it was because I was so good looking on my bagger....
Had a Fatboy for 8+ years. Always found myself wishing I had bags due to weather changes or carrying beer, etc.
This past Sept, I made the jump to my RK. Never looked back.
Ride what you like.
I am only 21 and have never thought twice about my Street Glide purchase! I love dynas and softails dont get me wrong, but how could anyone diss on a bagger!? I dont care if your 18 or if your 75, could you ask for a better ride? When I first got my bike, my friends all said "why would you get THAT bike?" Personally I like taking long rides and trips, I am not all about the show and flash or speed of a bike, just simply the ride. The sooner your friends figure that out, the more a motorcycle will mean to them!
P.S. - one of my friends that was always making fun of me for riding an "old mans bike" just recently purchased a street glide also, my guess...they are jealous
