Thanks for all the info and advice guys. This morning I went back to the dealer and spoke with the sales guy that has been so helpful to me. I don't know if he helped me out because of the reason I was switching or what, but he gave me a heck of a deal. I got a 2011 Street Glide, vivid black, powerpak and cruise. I put about 70 miles on her today and I know I made the right choice. Thanks again for all the advice. I'll post pics as soon as I find my camera.
I had a 98 Heritage, a 2000 and a 2001. I just traded in the 2001 last summer on a black Denim Road glide. Let me tell you, I have never been happier. There is no comparison. The road glide , and other touring bikes, are in a league of their own. I have never had a more comfortable ride than when I bought my roadie. Just my 2 cents
I own both an 03 Fatboy with an Air ride shot gun shocks Love the ride and it made a huge improvement on ride quality. Especially after having a lowering kit for years. But I always loved the Road King. I decided to get an 05 RKC. Got a great deal on it. Man what difference in ride quality. Still own both bikes and I dont think Ill ever part ways with my fatboy. Its a great bike for the short trips, ape-hangers and all, but the road king is just over the top when it comes to comfort and ride quality. It just eats the road up where the fat boy seems lighter , and the road is just sucked up by frame vibration. It almost feels like Im red lining at high speeds where as the road king just goes at higher speeds and way smoother.
If you like the deluxe, and want touring comfort, Get a Road king. They are the best looking bike on the road. The even look better than the deluxe. You have 3 bikes in one with a King (when you get a detatch fairing). The Street Glide doesnt have nearly the ride or handling of the King. Plus you cant take that fairing off...ever.
The new King is the King...ABS, 103, air ride, all of it. The 103 is so much better than the 96. I was shocked.
^^ I agree and was waiting for someone to mention it or just point out directly the fact that the Street Glide has less suspension travel and this is pretty significant for the OP who is looking for a softer ride because of a medical condtion if you ask me.
I think we are glossing over the fact that the Road King and Electra Glide has more suspension travel and will have a more forgiving ride on the bumpy roads etc as the OP is talking about.
He certainly needs to take all three bikes out for a test ride.
((ugh,, I see he bought a bike, good luck with the bike, glad your happy with your decision!)

Yeah, and this all happened 8 years ago. But agreed, it would be a tougher ride on a StreetGlide/RoadGlide, than stepping up to a full dressed bike. That and cheaper to get the full dresser, and pull stuff off, rather than buying all the gear to tour. Maybe the next person thinking the same way will learn from this thread
I dont have health issues but I just went through this myself. Im glad to see new replys in an old thread. Shows that the question is or was still valid. Anyway for me in The end I now own both bikes Only took a week to buy the ultra classic after the softail. It was such a nice bike and the price was awesome and I ride 2 up lots since I bought the softail. Wifey saw the first Harley and that was it 😎 I hardly get out of the house and fire one up and she is right there. Lol. But I have to say for me alone on a bike that softail is just way more bad *** than a touring bike. And I love that electraglide but if wifey wanted to ride ? I would buy another softail for her and she agrees. The touring bike kinda sucks if ya drop it 👎. It like lowering an old chev 4x4 What is the point ? And the new softail is different again now too. The rear shock is under the seat like a metric bike. Other thing I have learned. Almost every Harley owner I know has more than one Harley. ❤️
