Default Self Powder Coating

Ok, after spending around $300+ for powder coating various parts I decided to invest in the Eastwood Powder Coating KIt
http://www.eastwood.com/hotcoat-elit...-coat-kit.html

I been doing alot of reading regarding powder coating over chrome and there seems to be a wide array of opinions, some say "blast" and some say "just prep & coat". My question is if the chrome part is 100% in "good shape" is it okay just to prep & coat?

I wouldnt, too smooth, you will get better adhesion with a quick blast to rough it it. Will make the bond more durable

I would not even try to coat chrome, blast it off,so you know the job you do will be right.
Ever try to get paint to stick to chrome? Nearly impossible, unless you blast.

I blacked out all the chrome on my last bike myself. I blasted all the parts with silicon carbide before I powdered them and had no adhesion problems at all. I wouldn't powder over unprepped chrome. We have a few professional powder coaters here on the forum and maybe one of them will chime in with the definitive answer.

Have coated several small pieces black directly over chrome. Belt guard, coil cover, dash, horn bell, etc. Just clean it good. No issues.

I’m not an expert. But, if paint won’t adhere, why would powder coat?

I did 90% of my bike with the Eastwood. All I did was lightly scuff the parts, clean and coat. I have had no issues so far. With that being said all my chrome was in great shape. If your chrome is peeling or bubbling I would blast them. Hope this helps.

I do some powder coating as a side hobby and i will tell you turn the pressure down on the blast cabinet so it doesn't blister and cure at a much lower temp like 350 but for an extended cure time esp if it has been in contact with oil of any sort you will need to "outgas" before blast also at a low temp like 375ish for 2 or 3 hrs

do not touch the part with out gloves after blasting

steps should be
1 outgas
2 blast to get "tooth"
3 powder coat
4 cure
