I'd like to keep this from a flame thread about helmets, but for those of you who wear full face helmets, can you share what you like and dislike about yours?
I'm planning an Ironbutt ride for this summer, and am thinking that I will want the extra protection of a full face shield for this ride.
Right now I am looking at a Shoei RF-1100. I liked the Quest but the RF-1100 comes slightly bigger for my big *** head.
I currently have a Shoei X11. I used to get hot spots on my forehead. Manufacturers rep told me to replace the large head liner with a small. This corrected the problem. It's light weight with very good ventilation.
I've had an Aria Quantum. The vents leaked air when closed and I don't think the chin bar came down as low as the Shoeis.
I've had a few full face helmets, my main issue has been they make me feel claustraphobic, so I bought a Shark, problem solved, if I start feeling to caged I just lift up the face. I only use it when it's cool outside other than that I wear a 3/4 or 1/2.
I've had and worn Shoie, Aria, Bell and Nolan among others but time and time again I've gone back to the HJC line.
Currently I wear an HJC IS-16. It's lighter then any of the others, cool (temp not only look), and I love the internal visor system. It just fits my head better.
I have a new Bell Star, LOVE it. I have ridden with several Shoei's and Aria's in the past. Liked them too. But this bell has the BEST ventilation w/o excess noise that I have ever tried. It is very comfortable and stable in the air.
I have a Shoei X-11. The only thing I don't like about wearing it is that I have to tilt my head down slightly to see the speedometer on my Road King Classic, as the chin bar obstructs the view. I did have to change out the cheek pads for some thinner ones. Other than that it is a great helmet and it vents well
All I wear is full face. I really like the HJC 's I run a cl15 on the Harley and a cl14 on the kawi. They are very comfortable for me and easy to change between smoke and clear shields. You might try Helmetcity.com for a deal.
Shoei TZ-R is great, but they don't make 'em any more. You may be able to find some deals on closeouts. They are very quiet with the top vent closed, which is a big plus for me.
I used to do the fullface thing but after I needed Glasses I had such a tuff time getting them on. You didn't say if you wore glasses. If you do wear them be sure to check that out. Just my 2 cents. enjoy your ride
