Default Is there a trick to using AUX input?

I tried to use the AUX input for my ipod once, and the sound quality was awful. Is there a trick to tuning the radio to work best with the AUX input? I'd like to use the ipod some times, but don't want to spend the money for the ipod interface.

My iPod touch sounds just fine. It's never going to sound as good as a high end home system though.

Read though some of this thread for some pretty good tips on getting the best sound.

I've found that if you put the volume around half way, then turn up your radio volume, it will sound almost as good as the radio. If you have the volume at max on the ipod, it'll sound terrible.

The AUX input is also mono, which may affect your sound, where as the iPod interface is stereo. You will have both channels driven thru each speaker with AUX, so this may be the reason most cut the volume on the iPod. Because under normal stereo conditions, the iPod volume should be set around 80-85% and then use the radio controls.

But I have the interface, and never used the AUX input so I really can't say if I had those problems, but these are my thoughts.

I use my volume on the mp-3 player at 75 - 85%, also check to make sure the cord you are using from the i-pod to aux is good, a bad cord will make your music sound really terrible.

You must be using a mono source or a mono patch cord then. I use a shielded stereo 1/8" patch plug from my droid or my ipod and have normal stereo separation and everything sounds fine on my 2009 FLHX.

I use a high quality, stereo patch cord and mine has always sounded just as good as a MP3 CD. Aux has to be stereo, at least it is on mine. You can hear the stereo separation especially on songs like "Green Grass and High Tides"

+1...Do yourself a few and spend a few extra $ few the better patch cord. I had bought a retractable cord from Amazon.Com and it sounded like crap. I since bought a Monster cord and no issues.

Dont let water get into it.... It will sound like crap. Make sure you plug the hole when washing the bike. If you do get water in, use a vacuum to suck it out... This has been my experience.

Mono?? Aux port is clearly stereo.
Try a better cable or cleaning the contacts on the one you have
