Was it a quote or an estimate, that you agreed upon....
I am by no means a mechanic.... But a 1/4-20 nut. Tied to a string navigates those tight turns pretty well...
I would think that their "quote" time would be similar to "Book" time, therefore if they do the job in five hours then the tech will make a bonus (and I'm pretty sure they would still charge you for the "quoted" time). On the other hand if the tech takes longer then the "quote" time then the tech doesn't get paid full pay for the job. With that being said, I think that the Dealership should eat the extra time it had taken them to do the job.
Yea thats not standard practice......flatrate tech work doesnt work that way.....yall agreed on 7hrs if you knew it was going to take ten you wouldnt have agreed too have them install the bars......simple as that......but one important thing was it a quote or estimate?
if they looked at your new bars before installing them and there wasnt a defect inside the bars to keep them from pulling the wires through, or no extra parts added after the quote, they have some ***** trying to get 10 hrs out of you. personally i would be embarassed as a mechanic telling someone it took me 10 hrs to change bars
If they quoted you 7hrs, pay for only 7hrs, they are obligated to honor that quote unless a change in the work to be prefomed was changed on your part or additional work was approved, sounds like new tech training on your dime.
Me and a buddy did WO575's on my 09 bagger in approx. 6hrs, first bar change for me, 10 hrs for an experianced dealer, not acceptable.
I tried to do my own 16" Carlini Gangster Apes on my RKC. I totttttalllly jacked it up. Called my dealership got a quote of 8hrs. Asked how much to pick up the bike? They said they would cover that and do it for the 8hr price. I KNEW it would take the tech longer than 8hrs and it did. they called and said they would need it for another day. All said and done it took the tech about 13hrs. Got charged 8hrs.
Thanks everyone. I'm from the same school as the rest of you. I too would be pretty damn embarrassed to call to ask me to pay another 3 hrs. at $75.00 / hr. I'm heading there tomorrow for a face-to-face with the SVC manager to "discuss" this situation. I've been a good customer for them over the last 15 years..... I'm pretty shocked they did this. Wish I could see the wiring to validate the overall workmanship, ugh!
