The purpose of taking it off is not to carry it around. The snaps are to allow you to remove it if you have a fairing mounted GPS on the left side - still lets you use it with the other two pouches.

With the purchase of the Quick Release Belt the left pouch can be used as a fanny-pack.

I have the fairing mounted GPS (Zumo 665) and a LRS 8" wimdshield. I got the 3 pouch fairing bag and it works GREAT with the left bag snapped off. Perfect fit with the GPS.

I just picked up a slightly used old style HD fairing 3 pouch set yesterday and it's got 3 or 4 metal j hooks on it for mounting between the shield and fairing
Is this correct...metal? Seems like it would damage the plastic that will be tightened next to it....no?
